THE SHAPE OF EVERY CÉILE DÉ TEACHING RETREAT
Céile Dé annual residential teaching retreats are intensive, deliberately so, in order to create conditions that people are generally unable to manifest by themselves at home and in their everyday lives. This also gives those who are following the tradition an opportunity to receive sufficient material to work with until their next annual teaching retreat...
UNIQUELY FOR THIS 2020 GATHERING - THE CELTIC TRIDUUM PART OF THE RETREAT:
Celtic traditions observe the same Easter dates as the Orthodox Tradition. In 2023 The Celtic / Orthodox Easter Sunday falls on April 16.
From Thursday through to Sunday at least one session per day will be given to exploring together what that particular part of the Easter Story means to us at this point in our lives. In the Céile Dé tradition this is done through shared story-telling; we imagine ourselves to be there, witnessing the Last Supper on Thursday, for instance, or experiencing that strange dark time of loss and uncertainty (or faith, depending on what feels most real to you) on Easter Saturday. Some people will feel a strong urge to tell their Imaginal Story in our circles, others will simply choose to listen and keep their inner experiences to themselves... most of us will do a little bit of each, depending on what arises each day.
What happens as we share in this way is that, even though we know we are only imagining ourselves to be in these situations, we cannot help but weave the very real joys and challenges happening in our actual lives together with what our imagination sees, so that one informs the other and imbues it with Meaning. This has always been the Great Gift of story-telling; we inhabit a character and enter a story in order to discover something true about our Selves and our own lives.
No previous experience is required for this process, guidance will be given at the start and throughout. One doesn't even have to believe in the Bible or the Easter story in order for the universal themes it contains * to be explored. It is even possible - indeed very powerful - to receive deep insights through the archetypal exploration of the Easter story if one has an aversion to Mainstream Christianity or the "C Word"... because that very aversion would be the place from which you would inhabit the story.. i.e.: "I just don't get this Christ thing at all - why is everyone so caught up i this?" This does not mean that we use the process to 'convert to' Christ in some way; in our tradition Christ means something else than it probably means to people who've become turned off to the word for various reasons; at the very least it is worth looking beyond one's inclination to look the other way in order to begin to uncover what that something else might be.
More than a passing familiarity with the Easter story not required, as long as you know the following, you know enough:
Thursday - The Last Supper and betrayal of Christ
Friday - The Crucifixion
Saturday - The day after the crucifixion
Sunday - The Resurrection at Dawn
* Universal themes may include; love, belonging, not-belonging, no relationship at all with the very idea of Christ, trust, doubt, faith, inner certainty, betrayal, loss, pain, grief, transformation, forgiveness, hope, new beginnings .....and whatever else comes to you as part of your own process.
OTHER PARTS OF THE RETREAT:
Because of the powerful container our sacred story telling will create throughout our gathering, the teachings given every day will be carefully chosen to support the Easter process. Space will also be given for time alone in Nature for personal reflection.

- Each day begins with meditation before breakfast.
- Generally there are two sessions, each of around one hour's duration, every morning; these consist of either teachings, group discussion or some kind of practice; there is a break between each session, with enough time for reflection as well as teas or coffee. Afternoons are a similar shape, but there is more time available to spend in quiet reflection, either in Nature or indoors, as you wish.
- There is another meditation, or some other spiritual practice, before dinner.
- There is usually some free time after dinner - but optional events are available, giving retreatants the choice to rest a little - or stay intense!
- Every day ends with a meditation around 9 pm, after which we go straight to bed and hope for rich dreams after a day filled with soul nourishment.
